Medical Doctor and former Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, *Dr. Danjuma Sanda, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, formally declared his intention to contest for the seat of Member, Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency in the 2027 General Elections on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, YPP.
Dr. Sanda made the declaration during a press conference at Bishop Court, Jos, where he also unveiled his campaign manifesto focused on peace building, economic empowerment, infrastructure and accountable representation.
“Plateau Needs Stronger Voice At National Level”
The YPP candidate said his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across Bassa and Jos North.
“Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency needs someone who can argue, persuade, convince and effectively make the case for the people of Plateau at the national level,” he said.
Dr. Sanda decried what he called a “deep misunderstanding of the Plateau situation at the national level” and pledged to work toward better appreciation of the state’s realities, challenges and aspirations before the Federal Government and its agencies.
“The House of Representatives is a platform where issues bordering on State and Federal relations can be constructively addressed. We need politicians who are focused, consistent, competent, compassionate and coherent,” he added.
Core Agenda: Peace, Jobs, Health and Roads
Outlining his priorities, Dr. Sanda said he will focus on policies that promote peace and security with respect for human dignity, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable.
His key areas include:
1. Bridging infrastructural deficits through lobbying for federal projects to upgrade and rehabilitate rural and urban roads.
2. Expanding economic opportunities for youths and women via digital skills acquisition, agricultural support and entrepreneurship development.
3. Improving primary healthcare delivery across Bassa/Jos North.
4. Upgrading educational facilities and promoting technology-driven learning in partnership with local and international NGOs.
On security, he lamented the “colossal destruction caused by years of bloodshed” in parts of the constituency and promised to drive a comprehensive policy of reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation.
“We cannot negotiate peace for the people; we must negotiate peace with them, by first identifying and addressing what went wrong,” he said.
He rejected the claim that youth idleness fuels violence, noting that crises destroy businesses and create unemployment. “People who cannot afford two square meals a day can afford AK-47. Resources spent on weapons should be invested in productive ventures,” he stated.
Environment and Accountability
Dr. Sanda also pledged to draw federal attention to the *ecological devastation from decades of mining activities* in Bassa/Jos North, including abandoned mining ponds and loss of farmlands.
“I will ensure the environmental consequences are properly assessed and that appropriate remediation and, where justified, compensation are provided to affected communities. Our people deserve a better deal,” he said.
He promised an open-door policy with regular town-hall meetings to ensure constituents shape legislative decisions, and committed to promoting inter-religious harmony.
“Motivated by a firm commitment to effective representation, accountability and sustainable development, I present myself to serve with integrity, vision and dedication,” Dr. Sanda concluded.
“With faith in Almighty God, the support of the people and the partnership of the media, I am confident that victory is possible.”
The event was attended by community leaders, youth and women groups, and other stakeholders from Bassa and Jos North.
